KSSMN – Korean Society of Surgical Metabolism and Nutrition

History

Recognizing the importance of proper nutritional support for surgical patients, 11 surgeons organized the Surgical Metabolism and Nutrition Study Group on November 25, 1994, and held their first research meeting. Since then, they have hosted another 24 symposiums. The significance of this initiative lies in the fact that surgeons, who are at the forefront of caring for surgical patients – a group that constitutes a significant portion of the nutrition support field – have led research in metabolism and nutrition. Furthermore, they have laid the foundation for substantial clinical academic advancements in nutritional support for surgical patients. On October 21, 2009, the Korean Society of Surgeons approved transforming the Surgical Metabolism and Nutrition Study Group into a specialized division, the Korean Society of Surgical Metabolism and Nutrition. The society officially announced its inauguration on March 20, 2010, starting with the founding conference of the Korean Society of Surgical Metabolism and Nutrition.
